Meet Bro. Kevin Coffey

Brother Novice Kevin Coffey of St. Procopius Abbey is 28 and has spent most of his adult life in southern Maryland – Calvert County to be exact. While working in Jeannette, PA, with an iconographer studying the craft of icons, a monk from St. Procopius studying to be a priest would come paint with him. Kevin was invited to come and visit the Abbey in Lisle. Kevin shares, "I finally couldn’t ignore the call any more. For years this urge that I couldn’t quite put my finger on would swell up inside. When I was asked to visit the monastery to see if I had a vocation it was like Jonah coming out from the mouth of the fish. The formation has been thrilling."

"There’s been an interesting dual nature about it for me. The first part is the challenge to deepen your knowledge and to expand yourself. The second part is the fresh air and the light after spending time in the fish, coming home, to a place I’m meant to be."
